This will introduce you to the basics of throwing and turning clay on a pottery wheel.
This lesson will include clay preparation and throwing techniques including centering, raising and how to form shapes. I encourage all my students to bring some images of shapes that they want to learn.
If you wish you can book a turning lesson after completing a throwing class which will let you finish the pieces you made from your first class which will have leather dried. It will introduce you to the techniques involved in turning/trimming such as removing any excess clay on your pots and creating a foot ring using a variety of turning tools. Depending on the type of pot you create you might also be able to learn how to attach handbuilt structures such as handles.
You will have made several functional pieces by the end of the workshop which will then be glazed, fired and returned to you within 4 weeks.
Your workshop includes:
- A 2.5 hour class or 3 hours for two participants on a top of the range pottery wheel.
- All the clay and materials you'll need
- Firing costs
Bernie, the border collie assistant, will be on standby to help you with any queries. He takes payment via belly rubs.
Please get in touch if you have another date in mind.
